Cvan 2.4

Spent a couple of quiet, rainy days at Lake Albert. Nice cpark right on the lake. Lots of pelicans + a heron & some birds that live in the reeds. They have large clawed feet, must look them up, some kind of hen. Went for a couple of short walks inbetween rain; visited the bakery, unusual, read.
Left towards Coonawarra via the Coorong, taking some tracks through the National park. Beautiful area, be lovely in warmer weather. Lunch in Kingston SE (don’t know what SE is), then thru to Bellwether winery via the country roads. Lovely scenery and very little traffic.
Great spot at the winery – it has basic glamping tents, several powered cvan sites set around a large loop, so our nearest neighbour was 200 metres away. Mabel the Maremma introduces herself to new arrivals. Little flock of sheep running around. Beautiful old woolshed, built in the 1850s, now used as kitchen + wine tasting area, little reading nook. Camp kitchen outside with a big firepit where we heated up our delish lamb roast in camp oven, prepared by Catherine who also made us a chimichurri sauce + picked me a heap of greens from the produce garden which she also maintains! A big downside was the 11 or so roosters who took turns crowing most of the night, it was a full moon, and Mabel, who gets locked up with the chickens at night, barks intermittently thru the night, & then constantly from about 6am for someone to let her out! Got up at 7 to do just that!
Partook in a wine tasting with 6 other campers. Interesting wines. The reds appealed so we bought some Cabernet & had one with our lamb.
A lovely 2 days. Could have gone to Naracoorte caves, or other wineries, or gardens further along but didn’t!
Sunday drove to Port Fairy as we’d never been. Stayed at the biggest caravan Park we’ve ever stayed in, beautiful grassed sites behind large hedges to keep out of the wind. Wonderful to hear the sound of the ocean again. Not many people. I walked to the area overlooking the wild ocean. The park is obviously so big for the festival + other events they have there.
Drove out next day + got a glimpse of the river + boats. It was bin day so we had trouble finding a parking spot!!
On to Gellibrand where we parked in friends driveway+ caught up.
Home on Tuesday, via the Q-S ferry! Was so good to avoid the traffic between Geelong + home. So we did over 3000km in 4 weeks, approx 600 of those offroad. Van held up well. Only difficulty is having to cook outdoors in inclement weather.
Now I’m home, I can pop up some pics
End!
